On September 6, the Southern California Regional Energy Network (SoCalREN) hosted its 10-year anniversary celebration. During the event, attended by over 200 public agencies, SoCalREN recognized the City of Pomona for its commitment to advancing sustainable energy initiatives with the Decade of Sustainable Excellence Award. Pomona Choice Energy’s Julie Carver and Anthony Ortega were thrilled to accept the award on behalf of the City.
“We are incredibly thankful to SoCalREN and proud to be receiving the Decade of Sustainable Excellence Award,” said Pomona Choice Energy’s Program Manager and Environmental Compliance Supervisor Julie Carver. “Through our community choice aggregation (CCA) program and other community projects, we will continue to implement new renewable energy programs to benefit residents and local businesses.”
Over the past decade, the City of Pomona has captured approximately $150,000 in annual cost savings and 800 MWh in annual energy savings. Pomona has undertaken substantial projects, including street lighting retrofits and comprehensive renovations at its parks and libraries, with more initiatives currently underway. Their collaboration with SoCalREN has led to the establishment of an Energy Resilience Action Plan for Palomares Park and the library, plans to install 19 EV chargers through the County’s EVen Access Public Power-Up Program and support for a California State Library grant application.
The City of Pomona has a long history with SoCalREN. Ten years ago, Pomona was one of the very first SoCalREN Energy Champions – agencies that take it upon themselves to drive policies, programs and procedures necessary to achieve a sustainable future for their communities. Today, there are over 215 such Champions. Pomona Choice Energy is proud to be a part of such a longstanding partnership and commitment to building a sustainable future.
