As summer temperatures heat up Pomona, Pomona Choice Energy is committed to helping residents stay cool while managing energy costs effectively. Pomona residents can use our practical energy-saving strategies and accessible community cooling centers to have multiple options to beat the heat without breaking the bank.

“Summer months can be challenging for many in our community as energy bills tend to increase with higher cooling demands,” said Pomona Mayor Tim Sandoval. “Pomona Choice Energy and the City are dedicated to providing our residents with both practical energy-saving solutions and information about community resources that can help everyone stay comfortable during the hottest days of the year.”

Smart thermostat management can make a significant difference in summer energy costs. Set your thermostat to 78°F when you’re home and raise it a few degrees when away, as every degree higher can save 6-8% on cooling costs. Use ceiling fans to circulate air, allowing you to raise the thermostat by 4°F without sacrificing comfort. Close blinds and curtains during the day to block heat-generating sunlight, and open windows at night when temperatures drop.

Reducing heat sources inside your home helps your cooling system work more efficiently. Avoid using heat-generating appliances like ovens, dryers and dishwashers during the hottest parts of the day. Instead, use these appliances in early morning or evening hours or consider grilling outdoors and preparing no-cook meals. Replace air filters in your air conditioning system monthly during peak usage and seal air leaks around windows and doors to prevent cool air from escaping.

Pomona residents can also access three convenient cooling centers that welcome service animals and provide comfortable relief during extreme heat. The Pomona Public Library (505 S. Garey Ave.), Washington Park Community Center (865 E. Grand Ave.) and Palomares Park Community Center (499 E. Arrow Highway) all offer free, air-conditioned spaces where residents can escape the heat while enjoying community resources and activities.

Pomona Choice Energy customers can explore long-term savings through the Power Choice Program, which offers solar panels and battery storage solutions with zero upfront costs. These systems provide energy independence and predictable rates that can significantly offset summer cooling expenses.
