Pomona Choice Energy is marking five years of powering Pomona with cleaner, more affordable electricity. Since its launch in 2020, the city-managed energy aggregator has delivered cost savings to Pomona residents, accelerated Pomona’s climate action plans and furthered its commitment to sustainability.
“Pomona Choice Energy is about empowering our community,” said Julie Carver, the City of Pomona’s Environmental Programs Manager and CalChoice Board Alternate. “We’ve created real options for residents and businesses, and we’re proud of how far we’ve come in just five years.”
Pomona Choice Energy was established to give the community more control over energy rates and power sources. Over the past five years, the program has stabilized rates, promoted the use of clean energy and invested in efforts to make clean energy more accessible.
In 2025, Pomona Choice Energy maintained its competitive rates. Additionally, the agency is stepping up its outreach to help local residents make sense of their energy choices and take advantage of tools for managing consumption.
Innovation remains high on the list of goals for the future. Pomona Choice Energy is researching demand response programs to boost grid reliability, reduce peak-hour pressure on the grid and improve citywide service. The agency has initiated programs like Power Choice, under which customers can install solar panels and battery storage systems without having to pay high upfront installation costs.
“Pomona Choice Energy is a model of what can be achieved through local control,” said CalChoice Interim CEO Rob Johnson. “Their vision shows the promise of community energy solutions.”
Celebrating this milestone, Pomona Choice Energy is looking ahead to building for the future with plans to expand renewable options, strengthen collaborations and continue to support Pomona’s efforts in sustainability.
