Representatives from Pomona Choice Energy attended the California Community Choice Association annual conference in Sacramento to evaluate regional grid strategies, learn more about state energy regulations and connect with fellow leaders in the community choice aggregation industry.
The conference, held May 12-14, marked the 10th anniversary of the association, known as CalCCA. More than 1,000 energy industry professionals attended the event to discuss grid reliability, resource adequacy requirements and renewable energy distribution.
Actor and advocate Kal Penn delivered a keynote address on public power opportunities. Other featured speakers included CalCCA CEO Beth Vaughan, Clean Power Alliance CEO Ted Bardacke and San Diego Community Power CEO Karin Burns, who discussed the regulatory direction of community choice aggregation programs in the state.
Pomona Choice Energy participates in the state energy market through its partnership with the California Choice Energy Authority. The joint powers authority supports eight operational community choice programs in Southern California. During the three-day event, representatives coordinated on local utility programs, including the Power Choice initiative that installs solar panels and battery storage for low-income residents.
“The conference allows us to bring state-level energy insights back to Pomona,” said Julie Carver, environmental programs manager for the City of Pomona and a CalChoice board alternate. “We remain focused on securing stable utility rates and maintaining local decision-making power for our residents.”
